Wednesday Night Racing on a Catalina 42

This blog is under construction so read it at your peril.  Photos and anecdotes to follow.

HMMM... an ignored article (noted in April of 2014)

Here is a link to the 10 Commandments of Beer Can Racing

Catalina is a yacht building company that builds a very straight forward boat.  All it's boats are a great value for the money and well built and supported by the builder.  This blog talks about racing a Catalina 42.

There are only two PHRF registered C-42s in the Puget Sound area and we have never raced in the same race.  These boats are rarely raced as they are basically fast cruising boats with older owners who eschew the sport of racing yachts.

Jah Mon has been doing the Anacortes YC Wednesday racing since 2005 when she came to town from Puerto Vallarta.   She is a fin keeled (7' draft) with a spade rudder, two stateroom layout with ensuite heads, 1994 Mark 1 (the last year of the Mark 1).  There is nearly every option for enhanced cruising or leisure added to this boat.  She is always for sale at $150k so make me an offer and get a great boat, turn key!

Ideally, the crew count would be 7-8 bodies, all highly skilled in several positions.  The reality is this is a small town, isolated from the world in a corner of Washington State out on an island (Fildalgo).  That really limits the crew population base to select from.  If one had a winning boat, then the problem of getting and keeping hot shot crew is easy but on a C-42 we are lucky to not be last.

The program has morphed from trying to be competitive to having fun and being competitive at the start of the race.  After the start, we are just out sailing the bay in the sun, training all the newbies and enthusiasts who would like to see what sailing is about.
